Fam公司ily Book Sheets

September 18, 2013

Mom reading to childLiteracy activities are much more than just reading. They can include pretend play, math and science, music and movement, motor and thinking skills, art and reading readiness activities. Children are more likely to develop skills when they are having fun, but also when the skills have meaning for them. Using books in early childhood is a great way to link new concepts to ideas that children already understand. Activities can be matched with books to extend learning in hands-on ways that focus on developing specific learning skills.

Each MI Stronger Family Book Sheet includes the book title and author as well as a short summary. There are also helpful tips about ideas and questions to ask the children before, during and after reading the book. The MI Stronger Family Book Sheet focuses on activities that can enhance the book reading in seven main areas of school readiness that include:

  • Math and science
  • Reading readiness
  • Music and movement
  • Motor skills
  • Thinking skills
  • Art
  • Pretend Play
